The South African wildlife industry faces an uncertain future in light of the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment's delay in publishing this year's annual hunting quota.
The wildlife industry in South Africa has been left in the lurch due to the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment’s (DFFE) lack of communication regarding the annual hunting quota for 2024. This relates to the trophy hunting of African elephant, black rhino and leopard, which contributes over R200 million to rural economies.
Wildlife Ranching South Africa (WRSA) has written to DFFE Minister Barbara Creecy urging her to take immediate action in lawfully determining and publishing the annual quota.
