Audit reform through education foundational to ethical accountability

As more irregularities continue to be uncovered, the spotlight naturally turns to the accounting profession - not merely as a technical function, but as a pillar of ethical leadership and public accountability.

Accountants are more than just number-crunchers. They protect financial integrity and ensure transparency, fairness, and responsible use of resources. In a world where many distrust public and private institutions, the profession needs to move beyond just following rules. It should focus on making ethical and socially aware decisions - and this change must start with education.

Redefining the profession's role

The accounting profession must be seen as a vehicle for national development. Accountants not only audit financial statements - they audit systems, behaviours and cultures. Their role should encompass whistleblowing, guiding ethical governance, and ensuring public money is used for public good.
