“India has huge talent in areas such as generics, chemistry, biology, developing novel vaccines like mRNA, mDNA etc. but not in novel drug discovery” said Dr Anandkumar, Co-Founder & CEO, Bugworks Research.

 Dr Anandkumar was speaking at a panel discussion on the topic “Search for a New Molecule: Shift from Generics to Novel Drugs” organised at the BioSpectrum Excellence Awards 2023 ceremony in New Delhi on June 30.
He further said, “We are now finding reverse brain drain with India emerging as pharma and vaccine hub of the world. Experts from the bioclusters of the world are looking back at India. Hopefully in the coming few years we can compete with global giants in the drug discovery space.” Making his views on the pain points of the industry Dr Anandkumar said “The key pain point is availability of skilled talent pool to work on novel drug discovery areas.
