In recent times, the water crisis has emerged as a key environmental challenge.
India, home to 18 per cent of the world's population, holds only 4 per cent of the global groundwater. The Central Water Commission highlights that per capita water availability has reduced by 25 per cent over the last 70 years.
By 2030, NITI Aayog projects that the country's water demand will be double the available supply. Agriculture accounts for 87 per cent of groundwater extraction, with the remaining 13 per cent used for domestic and industrial purposes.
The Government of India's Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) promotes sustainability through Water Green Credits, encouraging water conservation, efficiency, and reuse by individuals, farmers, cooperatives, and businesses.
