The weekend up at Knockhill was tough before it started; recovery from a shoulder injury was going reasonably well, but I was certainly far from feeling 100%.

I missed direct entry into Q2 for the first time this year, and even in the wet in the afternoon (where I'm normally pretty mustard) I was ninth overall and busting a ball to even do that. The feeling wasn't good. To add to my tale of woe, the first race was going pretty decently until I was wiped out, got zero points, and in the process I re-aggravated my shoulder injury. In all honesty, I was pretty fed up and just wanted to get Sunday over and done with.

It was a rainy morning, only made brighter by my little boy presenting me with my Father's Day present - a great big hug and three packs of World's Best Dad socks that, of course, I was going to sport for the racing ahead. With the Knockhill venue being typically underwater as ever, I actually felt back to my normal self on the bike, and I hounded local legend Rory Skinner as we battled out front. Just as I was starting to think about making my move with the laps ticking down, I lost all backshifts on the bike, followed by all upshifts. I was just three laps from the flag and thought my run of misfortune was going to continue, but somehow, I had enough of a gap to limp home to a pretty fine second position.
