MG TARGETS TESLA WITH HIGH-TECH EVS

MG's premium offshoot reveals saloon and SUV to take on Model 3 and Y

MG has launched a new sub-brand in the UK to rival Tesla with a high-tech saloon and crossover in the vein of the Model 3 and Model Y. The new 5 and 6 are the first UK-bound models from the recently established EV marque IM, which launched its first cars in China in 2022 and now has a four-strong lineup that closely matches that of its US rival.

IM was founded in 2020 by MG's parent company SAIC, e-commerce giant Alibaba and R&D specialist Zhangjiang Hi-Tech. The brand made its European debut at the Geneva show last year, where it showed the IM 5 saloon and IM 6 SUV - now both confirmed to be heading to MG dealerships, where they will be branded as MG models, in the coming months.
