Mercedes’ best-seller to benefit from a host of new tech as it turns EV

The new Mercedes-Benz GLC EV will arrive later this year as an indirect replacement for the EQC, marking a strategic shift in the firm’s EV strategy — one focused on integration rather than reinvention.

This more pragmatic approach will result in the GLC EV slotting in alongside a facelifted version of the existing combustion GLC in 2026, sporting an almost identical look inside and out.

Boss Ola Källenius wants less differentiation and greater cohesion between powertrains in a bid to drive EV sales. Until now, Mercedes has designed distinct EVs with unique names and positioning.

The GLC has regularly been Mercedes’ best-seller since its 2015 launch, and the firm hopes the GLC EV can leverage that equity to be a catalyst for EV sales.
