The NON-CONFORMISTS
August 2024
|Architect and Interiors India
Torchbearers of the new creative revolution, Farah and Dhaval, the founders of FADD Studio talk about disrupting the status quo and their quest for breaking self-imposed boundaries of design.
When two unconventionally creative, borderline stubborn and flamboyantly self-confident people come together - Farah, with her blatant disregard for standards who accidentally but confidently wore two different flip flops to a design meeting of a fashion brand; and Dhaval, who despite his traditional family and childhood, carried on his penchant for pink shirts - and realise that their common ground is the rejection of stereotype, passion for design and appreciation of hard work, the consequence can only be a bold and audacious studio.
Two avant-garde people cannot create a conventional practice! And that is what FADD studio is all about. And, it is these unconventional ideas that make up the essence of the studio. When Farah was quizzed about what luxury means to her, she said, "Luxury is not truffle or an exotic dish that tastes great at a restaurant on a special occasion. It is getting perfection in what you taste every day. To me, luxury is a fantastic tasting of white rice and daal every single day or perfectly taut sunny-side-up eggs without the drip!" FADD studio represents just that simple, honest and creative solutions to find beauty in routine and mundane things.
While FADD is an acronym for Farah and Dhaval Design, it is also a play on the word 'fad'. It is here to break the fad and make timeless spaces. "With this stubborn sensibility and desire to be original, we aspire not to create a style unique to us but to give you a design identity that is exclusive to you and your space whether it is a home, restaurant or store," says Dhaval, whose passion for design and experience gives him the strength to take bold decisions.
FADD Studio's projects range from residences to offices and retail spaces to hospitality.
Sumisha Gilotra, Editor, Architect and Interiors India digs under the skin of this fearless duo that is breaking boundaries to create sensuous spaces that are revolutionising the way design is being approached.

MUSING MUSEUMS
A few months back, when I was in Budapest, I walked into a building that left me awestruck. The inquisitive me went on to explore, and I discovered that it was a museum with pixels on the exterior and that the curved structure of the building dipped underground to form the interiors, even as the garden I was walking on was the green roof of the building that interjected at street level! Woah! I quickly took some pictures and went on to research this building, and the more I read about it, the more I fell in love with it. And then of course I had to share it with you all!
