MARGHERITA MACCAPANI MISSONI'S HOME IN THE ITALIAN PROVINCE OF VARESE IS A 1970S VILLA TURNED INTO A PERSONAL MUSEUM OF MEMORIES.

None At this house, the light that shines through the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the garden is reflected on the beaded leash of Gaia, a sweet Labrador, and it falls on the surfaces of a cottage that seems to float in a sea of green.

It looks like something out of a dream, a modern fairy tale or even a still from Up (2009)—of the house that takes flight, lifted by countless helium-filled balloons. It is elegant, colourful and full of memories.

It is here, in the soft countryside of the Italian province of Varese, that designer and entrepreneur Margherita Maccapani Missoni has decided to stay, at least for a while. She has been living in the house for less than a year, but it feels like it’s been her home for much longer. “I don't know where the future will take us, but I knew that, for now, I wanted my children to be able to grow up here, close to their father, in a place that looked like it was ours.”
