Global firm SOM’s first residential tower in India comes up on the charming Carmichael Road in Mumbai; its warm cedar wood facade dotted with greenery

Late last year, Mumbai’s skyline got a new feature in its cap; a biophilic addition designed by the global firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), renowned for icons like the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the One and Seven World Trade Centres in New York and the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport - Terminal 2 in Mumbai.

The Carmichael Residences, a luxury 21-floor high-rise, located in Tardeo, a neighbourhood known for its historic bungalows and lush gardens, exudes tranquillity through its design. The building serves as a "vertical landscape," mirroring the greenery of its surroundings within its architecture. “This development adds a new residential experience for the neighbourhood,” said SOM Partner Laura Ettelman. “We designed the building as a vertical landscape, leveraging the biophilic identity of Carmichael Road and maximising the airflow and flexibility essential for comfort in a tropical climate.”
