The days are getting longer and seed sowing time is upon us all, whether for the allotment, smallholding or garden. Tender plants can be sown under glass, then once germinated can be gradually hardened off ready for planting out once all risk of frost has passed. It is important when sowing seeds under glass to always water seeds and young seedlings with clean tap water, please don't use dirty water from a water butt as it has been proven this can affect germination. Plus, always use a good seed sowing compost like the new Seed and Cutting Peat free compost they have introduced this year, which in their trials was found to offer germination results and seedling quality equal to growing in peat.
