Snapshots of the energetic songbirds that captured readers' hearts

Heralds of Spring

I managed to snap a perfectly timed photo of a yellow warbler as it serenaded me with its sweet spring song at Lake Koronis.

A common sound in the spring, the yellow warbler’s song is a musical series of whistles that is often compared to sounding like some version of sweet-sweet-sweet, sweeter-than-sweet.

imageSpring migration is an exciting time in northern Alabama. Migrating birds, such as this male chestnut-sided warbler, are known to stop at Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve in Huntsville, so the local birders have set up a water feature and a bird blind for photographers and bird-watchers. I love this warbler’s striking colors and patterns. How lucky that he paused long enough for me to snap this portrait. Christopher Baker MADISON, AL.

imageI usually only get to see one or two Wilson’s warblers a year as they pass through our area during their migration, so I was thrilled to capture this photo of one singing in a balsam fir tree!
