71st British National Ploughing Championships & Country Festival
By kind permission of the Duke & Duchess of Devonshire On the Chatsworth Estate, near Glapwell, North East Derbyshire Around 230 top ploughmen and women from all over Great Britain will compete this autumn in the 71st British National Ploughing Championships.
Two busy days will be packed with competitions for many types of plough and styles of ploughing, the highpoint of which will be when the British Champions are crowned and the top competitors are selected to represent England at the 2023 World and European Ploughing Championships.
There will be something for everyone alongside the ploughing competitions, from steam ploughing engines; vintage tractors and machinery displays; manufacturers and local dealers demonstrating their latest farm equipment; agricultural trade stands; shopping stalls and country crafts.
Horse ploughing is always one of the major attractions and there will be around a dozen pairs of heavy horses at work each day.

The secrets behind maximising incubator hatch rates
Buying quality point of lay hens can be an expensive proposition these days (even if you can find a local source of the breed that you want). Incubating fertilised eggs can save a great deal of money and make many more breeds accessible. If you already keep poultry that includes a cockerel, an incubator means that you can hatch their eggs either to increase your flock or to sell. Hugh & Fiona Osborne have been using incubators for many years and have learned that getting a good hatch means attention to detail.
