Daniel & Jade ‘We Thought We'd Lost Her'

The South Australian couple open up about their daughter Isla’s rare illness and the terrifying moment they thought she’d died

For any regular couple, appearing on The Block would be a daunting task. But for South Australian husband-and-wife team Daniel and Jade, any of the show’s challenges are insignificant after almost losing their daughter Isla to a debilitating and rare illness.

Farmer Daniel, 35, and hairdresser Jade, 34, open up to Woman’s Day about the gut-wrenching morning in 2015 when Jade woke to find their 18-month-old daughter seizing and frothing at the mouth in her bed.

“She was just lying there, white as a ghost, all clammy and frothing at the mouth,” Jade reveals. “I screamed at the top of my lungs.”

Adds Daniel, “I thought she was gone. I didn’t think there was any life in her.”

After having to leave their two sons, Lincoln and Hayden, six and four respectively at the time, at home, the couple embarked on a terrifying 15-minute journey to the hospital in Port Pirie. During that ride, Isla started to turn blue.
