Jane Ferré, 49, is a career coach, and lives in Staines upon-Thames with her husband, 47. No one likes applying for jobs, and, yes, often the process can feel overwhelming. It’s competitive, especially during a pandemic and a recession, and I understand people want to stand out. But lying on your CV is not the way to do that.

Just because you might not meet every single tick-box on the job specification doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go for the job. I see it as the company writing a wish list. If I meet most points, then I’ll put myself forward, shining a spotlight on the attributes I know I do have.
