A new entrant in the budget TV segment with lots of features

Smart TV market these days is as commoditised as the smartphone market. There are so many brands vying for consumer’s attention that not only offer a feature-packed TV but also at an attractive price. TV veteran maker, Hisense has now thrown their hat in the ring and has launched TVs in different sizes at affordable price points. This month, we take a look at their 43-inch variant under the A71F series that boasts a feature set similar to larger-sized televisions.

The TV won’t win any prizes when it comes to design but the 43A71F has a pleasing design. The 43-inch screen is virtually bezel-less around the sides, save it for a thicker bezel at the bottom. The connectivity ports are at the back and include two USB 2.0 ports, three HDMI 2.0 ports, SPDIF port, Ethernet, AV and RF input and a 3.5mm audio jack.

The TV goes through the standard Android TV setup process that requires some details to be fed manually or via an Android smartphone. That said, either way, the initial setup is easy and reveals the all-so familiar tiled Android TV UI. The tiles can be customised for quick app access and recommended content from your apps for better discoverability. Since this is a Google certified Android TV, the 43A71F get all the usual Google goodness like access to Play Store apps, built-in Chromecast for casting and Google Assistant that can be triggered with voice via the bundled remote control.
