If you just want a soundbar to improve your TV audio, you can probably spend your ₹20,490 more effectively than on the Yamaha SR-C20A. And if you want a wireless speaker in order to listen to music, at this sort of money you’re spoiled for choice.

YAMAHA SR - C20A

But if you want something that can do both, plus put a rocket up the audio side of your gaming experience too, well… the Yamaha is the way to go.

It’s compact enough to sit below even modestly sized TVs or gaming monitors, and it looks anonymous in the best way – this is Yamaha we’re talking about, after all, so the SR-C20A is on the ‘sophisticated’ side of ‘bland’. As far as specification goes, an HDMI ARC socket, a pair of digital opticals and a 3.5mm analogue input should do – especially when there’s Bluetooth 5.0 too.

100 Watts of amplification with a 7.5cm subwoofer and a pair of 4.6cm full-range drivers is enough to fill even quite large rooms with sound – and in case that sounds a bit tentative, there are two passive radiators giving extra wallop.

And all of that comes together beautifully. Use the touch controlson the bar, or the (rather nasty) remote control, or the (rather stylish) app to let the SR-C20A know what’s what, then sit back and enjoy sound that’s way bigger and more involving than your telly can provide by itself. The bass is detailed, well controlled and filled with variation, and at the opposite end the treble has proper bite and attack. In between, dialogue (for film) or singers (for music) fill the midrange with information.
