...is a breath of fresh air with the LG PuriCare, a device that gives you Bane-like fortitude.

■ While we wait, watching the COVID positivity rise, it's OK to feel like a sitting duck, again. But this time around, LG is stepping up to save the day. Not with a cape, but with a mask. Or more accurately, a wearable air purifier. The PuriCare comes complete with HEPA filters and fans that sense your breathing.

■ But its superpowers don't just end at cleaning up the very air that you're inhaling. It also has a mic and speaker array that amplifies every spoken word uttered from your concealed mouth. LG calls it VoiceOn, but think of it as a Darth Vader meets Bane mash-up.

■ Unlike any mask you've ever worn, the LG PuriCare is first and foremost a wearable filter, so it would be prudent to expect a bit of bulk. This second-generation design is more streamlined and lighter, but at 94g, it's still many times heavier than the mask you're used to having on your face all day.

■ The upsides of the LG PuriCare are that it allows you to breathe freely thanks to its dual inverter fans, so you never feel claustrophobic or constricted. Not for fresh air at least. And if you like eyewear, it never lets your glasses fog up like other masks!

■ An app tells you the volume of air intake, filter status and battery charge left. You can also control fan speed... Turbo getting too loud for comfort.
