By stumps on day two a mere 32.5 overs had been bowled in the match after rain and thunder saw both teams bide their time in the team rooms. But the weather would not see the prospects of an entertaining finish dashed.

It was a century from captain Virat Kohli in India’s second innings that afforded the hosts a late blitz against Sri Lanka on the final day’s play.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar carried his fine ODI form into red-ball cricket to fire up the adrenaline in his team-mates as Sri Lanka were reduced to 14-3 trying to close out the match.

On the backfoot, wicket-keeper batsman Niroshan Dickwella came to the crease and admitted he deliberately latched on to any opportunity to wind down the clock by getting involved in heated exchanges with Kohli and Mohammed Shami.
