Sharks start to circle thanks to pinch of Salt and guile of Garton

The 23-year-old took 4-27 with the ball but was far from done there, his 24 from just nine balls taking the Sharks out of tricky waters to their fifth South Group success.

Sussex needed 25 from the last two overs but the contest was over just six balls later, Garton hitting Steven Finn for a four and three sixes before falling with the winning line in sight.

Aaron Thomason hit the winning boundary as the hosts chased down 156, with Garton’s intervention building on the strong work from opener Phil Salt.

“When I came in to bat it was a sticky situation so I tried to take the pressure off and have some fun,” said Garton.

“We knew we only needed one good over and fortunately I had a swing and it came off.
