Lamb Helps Warwicks Survive As Essex Falter

WARWICKSHIRE head coach Jim Troughton hailed the character of his young side after they secured First Division survival with a battling performance that also dented Essex’s hopes of a second County Championship title in three seasons.
A crippling injury list has blighted Warwicks’ season with former England batsman Ian Bell – their leading batsman – ruled out for the entire campaign and pace bowlers Ryan Sidebottom, Olly Stone and Liam Norwell sidelined for most of it.
Warwickshire have used 24 players in County Championship cricket and given debuts to ten players – including loan signings Ben Mike and Toby Lester – as well as having to contend with playing five consecutive away matches in June and July.
