I Have No Regrets, Says Chief Moxon
The Cricket Paper
|July 7, 2019
AS Yorkshire suffered another batting collapse in the first innings of the Championship match against champions Surrey at Scarborough, director of cricket Martyn Moxon put up a vigorous defence of the decision not to sign a proven overseas star to strengthen the batting.

“I’ve no regrets at all,” Moxon told TCP. “We are finding out about our own players. It’s part of what this season is all about. We still want to win games, but we have players we need to see what they are capable of.
“We must find out about them and then we can plan for the long term. The other point is the availability of good overseas players and in recent seasons those that Yorkshire have had have not achieved a great deal,” explained Moxon who’s experienced similar batting collapses in the last few weeks, against Hampshire and Warwickshire.
Significantly, Moxon, coach Andrew Gale and skipper Steve Patterson are now looking ahead to the team’s requirements for the climax of the Championship campaign when the results in four matches against Notts, leaders Somerset at Taunton, Kent and Warwickshire may well determine the success of the season or otherwise.
