Shreyas Iyer Makes An Emphatic Case For T20 World Cup Spot, But Is It Enough?

Team India batter Shreyas Iyer has been among the strong contenders for a spot in the T20 World Cup. However, he has only enhanced his chances following a stellar performance in the T20 series at home against Sri Lanka. The 27-year-old registered scores of 57, 74 and 73, at all quick pace, in the three-match series Lanka. Amazingly, Shreyas returned unbeaten in all three games and deservedly ended as the player of the series, cracking 204 runs. Before that, he smacked 80 in an ODI against West Indies as well.

Shreyas got his chance in the T20I series against Sri Lanka after Kohli was rested, keeping the grueling upcoming schedule in mind. To his credit, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain grabbed his opportunities with both hands and came up with fantastic performances. What stood out about the youngster during the series against Sri Lanka was the fact that he was able to score at a rapid pace without actually resorting to slogging. Shreyas is gifted with a wonderful range of strokes, which was on display against the Lankans. He ended with a strike rate of 174.36, which speaks volumes of his level of domination of the Sri Lankan attack.
