The Bahrain Victorious debutant reflects on a tough week at the Tour

GAME OVER

I came down in the crash with G [Geraint Thomas]. It took me by surprise; we’d moved upright to the front, where you’re supposed to have the least amount of stress, then all of a sudden there’s people down in front and I couldn’t react in time. Then Jack [Haig] our GC leader, came down [and is now out]. He was also in the top 20 and he comes down on that twisty downhill corner with 4km to go and it was game over. It was a really big hit for us. Sonny [Colbrelli] did OK on the stage but no one cared about that this evening – we were all devastated.
