The Yankees’ Aaron Judge broke the rookie home run record this season, when he hit his 50th of the 2017 campaign in a game against the Kansas City Royals. Mark McGwire held the previous record for a rookie, done back in 1987. At 6-foot-7 and 285 pounds, Aaron Judge emerged as the biggest story in baseball in trading cards with his monstrous home runs and record breaking ability.

That alone is worthy of a book. But thankfully there is more behind the story as told by David Fisher in, Aaron Judge: The Incredible Story of the New York Yankees’ Home Run-Hitting Phenom, coming in November.

But the interest in baseball cards would reach a fever pitch by 1988, which would mark the first year since 1981 that a new manufacturer would enter the fold.
