FULL FRAME DSLR SHOOTOUT

Asian Photography

|

October 2021

With the advent of mirrorless cameras, it can be argued that the popularity of DSLRs is on the decline. While there is no denying that even industry pioneers like Canon and Nikon have also taken a serious plunge into the mirrorless game, they still continue to release interesting products in the DSLR space. Although the releases in the Full Frame DSLR have slowed down, we still witnessed the launch of at least one product in this space in 2020. The full frame DSLR category camera needs high specifications, advanced features and performance and this month's shootout features the two most competent Full-frame DSLRs between the range of ₹1.8 Lacs - ₹2 Lacs. These include Canon 6D Mark Il and Nikon D780.

Contenders

The contenders for the shootouts this month are the Canon EOS 6D Mark II and the Nikon D780. Now the Canon has been launched in 2017 while the D780 has been launched in 2020. So ideally the Nikon being the latest product in this segment should have the upper hand. But as previous shootouts have revealed it isn't always necessary that the new products are always the best in class sometimes.

• Canon EOS 6D Mark II

• Nikon D780

Parameters

Like every year the parameters for the shootout are same. These include the following:

• Look, Body and Feel

• Image Quality

• Value for money

Look, Body and Feel

Canon EOS 6D Mark II

The Canon EOS 6D Mark II was released in June of 2017 and features a comfortable grip for use. The smoothed-over curves of the top plate, buttons, and dials not only look beautiful, but they also make the 6D Mark II simpler to use, as you can just glide your fingertips over the surfaces to reach the buttons. These are organised in a logical way and are simple to remember. The 6D II has Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth with NFC for quick and easy pairing with Android devices. If you have an Apple iPhone, Bluetooth is somewhat ineffective; it can automatically connect your smartphone with the camera when both are turned on, but you still have to actively activate Wi-Fi, whether in settings or via the app, to do anything with Canon's Camera Connect software. The body is constructed of magnesium alloy and fiber and is quite hefty and well built. For someone who is using this camera, it is nice and sturdily built which means it scores well in this department.

Since picking up a macro lens, he has captured moments as fleeting as damselfly mating rituals and as rare as spider courtship. His work goes beyond beauty, documenting behaviour, ecology, and the fragile poetry of life in miniature. Asian Photography spoke to him about inspiration, hardships, mistakes, bucket shot and more. How Close Should You Get to a Subject? Ethics in Macro

Macro photography is all about getting close — closer than the eye can see. It invites us into intimate worlds: The spiralled symmetry of a snail's shell, the fine hairs on a bee's leg, the dew resting on a spider's web. But as we close in, a question looms that goes beyond technique or gear: How close should we get?

OnePlus Nord 5 Camera Review - New Midrange King?

Last year, when we reviewed the OnePlus Nord 4, it left us wanting more. This year, the Nord 5 arrives with bold promises - it's the first Nord to feature a Snapdragon 8-series chipset and the first mainstream OnePlus device with a 144Hz OLED display. But what we're really here for is the camera - especially since it borrows tech from the flagship OnePlus 13. While pricing hasn't been officially confirmed (we received both the Nord 5 and CE5 under embargo), we expect it to stay close to last year's launch price - between ₹30,000-₹35,000. According to OnePlus, this is their most complete Nord yet. So, do the cameras live up to that claim? Let's find out!

DECAY DIARIES: DISCOVERING THE BEAUTY OF ROT, RUST, AND RUIN THROUGH MACRO

Decay is usually seen as a sign of failure, of neglect, corrosion, and abandonment. It marks the places we leave behind and the things we no longer touch. But for those who carry a macro lens, decay is not the end of something, but the beginning of a fascinating visual story. Up close, rot becomes a rich texture, rust becomes a complex pattern, and ruin becomes poetry. Welcome to the world of Decay Diaries, where beauty isn’t found in perfection, but in what is slowly falling apart.

Apple's iOS 26 Brings Changes to Imaging Experience, Camera APP and Photos

Apple's new design overhaul brings an update to the Camera app in iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26, making everyday photography feel more immersive and intuitive. The redesigned UI prioritizes easy reach for core controls while minimizing distractions. Buttons, sliders, and toggles now live within a refined control layer that adapts as you frame shots or switch modes. In the app, navigation and tools morph fluidly to stay out of the way until you need them, keeping the focus squarely on capturing the moment. New gestures streamline access to pro tools, and the layout now curves with the edges of modern displays for a more cohesive, hardware-conscious experience.

WHERE DOES MACRO END AND MICRO BEGIN?

Macro photography opens the door to a world we rarely notice-a place where the texture of a leaf becomes a jungle, the surface of a coin a lunar landscape. But how close is too close? At what point does macro stop being macro and enter the realm of micro photography? The line between the two isn't just a matter of semantics. It's about tools, technique, and intent. In this article, we'll draw that line.
