Dog Photography Tips For Better Portraits

Schedule the Session

The success of the images relies on proper scheduling of the shoot. If you’re planning for portrait-style dog images, you’ll have a higher chance of capturing your dog in a relaxed mood when they are feeling sleepy or have just woken up. And if you’re looking for energising action images, then it’s best to capture images of them when they are most active. You can usually make them prepare for some good images by playing with them beforehand. If you are lucky enough you can get to capture both relaxed images and action images in the same session. To do it, start shooting them with the relaxed mood, and then pay off them with treats and playtime for more energetic images.

Carefully Plan Your Shots

Taking candid images and going with the flow can get you great images, but for really attractive ones that tell a story, you’ll need to capture them in various conditions. Conceptualising a theme, and being prepared for your key photos, as well as what you may have to do to create it. Sometimes you will have to include props, such as their favourite toys or food that will bring out their happy expressions and joy. Add variety to your images by capturing at different spots of the house that you may place them in and plan various activities.
