Pak PM Asked To Forge Trade Ties With India To Tide Over Crisis-Hit Economy

THE Pakistan business community has asked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to forge trade ties with India to save the crisis-hit economy, which is marked by inflation exceeding 29% in the last fiscal year.

In his maiden visit to Karachi on April 23, industry leaders told Shahbaz that it was "almost impossible" to do business with high energy costs and inconsistent government policies. One of the measures, they said, was to initiate trade talks with India.

This is the third instance in which various leaders; political and from the business community in Pakistan have ramped up the demand for re-building trade ties with India. The twoway trade stopped after the Pulwama attack in February 2019 and the abrogation of Article 370 in August the same year.
