Daniil Medvedev said the energy of the New York crowd helped instigate his stunning fightback that saw him fall just short against Rafael Nadal in Sunday’s US Open final.

The Russian fifth seed dropped the first two sets in his first Grand Slam final but charged back to force a decider, almost erasing a double-break deficit in the fifth set before going down 7-5, 6-3, 5-7, 4-6, 6-4.
