Sitharaman reiterates that nobody will lose job in mega bank mergers

WHILE addressing media persons after a meeting with tax officials in Chennai, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman refused to give a “yes” or “no” to the question on whether India is witnessing an economic slowdown.

The Finance Minister played it safe with an “if”, where she said that she was meeting people from different sectors and making decisions to help them at this point of time, but she did not explicitly shared her thoughts on whether the country is going through an economic slowdown.

During the press conference on Sunday, after a reporter asked if the country is going through an “economic slowdown”, Sitaraman replied, “The government is in consultation with a lot of sectors. In some sectors the inventory is piling up. We have heard them and announcements were made on August 23. I made some announcements last Friday also.”
