Latest plans for skyscraper set to hit new heights

City centre tower which would house 485 apartments could be even taller than first thought

A NEW skyscraper with hundreds of apartments set to be built between the Northern Quarter and Ancoats could be even taller than originally planned.

Plans for 485 apartments in a 34-storey tower on Port Street and an 11-storey tower in Great Ancoats Street have been submitted to Manchester council.

It comes months after Cheshire-based developer Select Property Group put forward proposals for a 31-storey apartment building on the same site which local residents' groups and councillors complained would be too tall.

But the final proposal revealed this week exceeds even the 33-storey structure envisioned in the master plan for the Piccadilly Basin area.
