England star spends night in cells as police continue rape and assault quiz

DETECTIVES were today continuing to question England and Manchester United footballer Mason Greenwood following his arrest on suspicion of rape and assault.

Greenwood, 20, spent the night in police custody after allegations emerged early yesterday that he had been violent towards a woman. He has also been suspended by the Premier League side.

Greater Manchester police said they had been made aware of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence. The £75,000-a-week striker's arrest came after a distressing clip emerged on Instagram.

Another post included a recording of a conversation between a man and a woman, dated October last year, which appeared to describe an attack on her. The video and images have been deleted from the woman's social media account.
