Firefighters said thanks to light winds, low tide, and “outstanding teamwork”, only a Waltzer fairground ride and a workshop, both halfway down the pier, were destroyed.
No one was injured and the cause is being investigated.
The 152-year-old Central Pier is one of three in the resort.
Firefighters were alerted at 3 am and stayed until later in the day to damp down any hotspots.
