Help With Menopause And Periods To Get 'Top Priority'

Supporting patients who suffer with painful periods or problems caused by the menopause are two of the UK's top priorities for women's health this year.

Improved maternity care was also among the measures announced by the Government yesterday at the Women's Health Summit.

The event is marking the second year of the 10-year Women's Health Strategy, which aims to break down obstacles women face in healthcare.

Health Secretary Victoria Atkins said there has already been "huge progress", with more women gaining access to hormone replacement therapy for the menopause, enhanced support for pregnancy loss and the opening of women's health hubs.

She told the summit, at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in London: "We're breaking historical barriers that prevent women getting the care they need, building greater understanding of women's healthcare issues and ensuring their voices and choices are listened to.
