Make A Difference, One Pint At A Time

Local Clubs Need A Hand

In a few weeks’ time, we will be celebrating another successful Non-League Day. Saturday, October 12 will be a celebration of the people, the clubs and all that is great about Non-League football.

It’s a fantastic concept that has brought some wonderful awareness for Non-League clubs up and down the country. I still remember the first time I heard about James Doe’s vision back in 2010 and our pleasure in helping promote the concept via Twitter and the show, then on BBC London. We’ve often discussed the sheer simplicity of the idea that was under everybody’s nose for years and it’s even more pleasing to see its continuing success, growing year on year.

That’s great because Non-League will get more mainstream media coverage as a result, clubs will boost their coffers from increased gates and the extra refreshments bought by those attending. However, in say eight weeks’ time, my discussions with chairpeople, managers and fans up and down the country, across Non-League, will once again revert to the dearth of people at their clubs. We’ve often debated how we get more volunteers involved in their clubs but it appears the multitude of distractions of modern life is impacting even further.
