BATTLE OF WITS BATH LEFT UNSCATHED

In the end the two sides cancelled each other out in what was as much a tussle of tactical nous between the dugouts as it was between the players on the pitch.

And though there were no goals, Bath boss Jerry Gill praised the match as one for aficionados. “It was a really good game for the punters to watch, I really enjoyed it,” he said. “I knew what it was going to be; a real tactical battle.

“It wasn’t a dour 0-0 by any means; there was some excellent football.

“People want to see goals, but if you’re a football person you have to understand sometimes that two teams who are tactically astute can cancel each other out.
