WHY DID YOU CHOOSE A CAREER AT SEA?
I was born on the Isle of Barra, a small island in the Outer Hebrides, and my family all worked at sea in the fishing industry or in the Merchant Navy. From a young age I was interested in boats, and during any time off I had, and in the summer holidays, I always was in boats and involved in anything to do with the water. When I left school I went into the fishing industry and joined my brother in fishing, working in the family business.
