Procycling previews the upcoming Worlds Week in Bergen, between 16 and 24 September

Worlds Come To Bergen

Like Rome, Bergen is built on seven hills. Well, it’s nine, but depending on who you ask, two don’t count. This year’s Worlds make use of two of them, and what remains unused around the Pudde Fjord will create a spectacular backdrop for the racing. The most picturesque worlds since Florence? Definitely, if it doesn’t rain. But it does rain a lot here - about 250 days a year.

After last year’s flat line parcours and its similarly dead atmosphere in Qatar, Bergen should compensate, and issue a reminder to cycling’s administrators, who will gather in the Radisson Blu to elect a president on 21 September, just how important roadside fans are to cycling.
