It was a vastly smaller undrafted free agent class the Dolphins brought to their post-draft rookie minicamp this year.

The group consisted of only five players — Middle Tennessee guard Robert Jones, tight ends Carl Tucker from Alabama and Jibri Blount, defensive tackle Jerome Johnson from Indiana and cornerback Jaitlyn Askew from Georgia Tech.

In terms of potential, it’s Jones, projected as a potential fifth- or sixth-round pick who clearly stands out, though Blount is the most intriguing.

Along with being the son of Hall of Fame cornerback Mel Blount, Jibri signed with the Dolphins with no college football experience, having played power forward and center for the North Carolina Central basketball team.

A big addition

Before they selected big tackles Liam Eichenberg and Larnel Coleman in the 2021 draft, the Dolphins made a big addition to their offensive line — in more ways than one.

The team signed veteran free agent D.J. Fluker, a former first-round pick who has played for four teams since entering the NFL in 2013.

Fluker played last season with the Baltimore Ravens, starting eight of 16 games.

Prior to playing for Baltimore, Fluker played for the Chargers, who made him the 11th overall selection in that 2013 draft, the New York Giants and the Seattle Seahawks.

Fluker, who played at Alabama long before Tua Tagovailoa and Raekwon Davis stepped foot on campus, can play pretty much everywhere on the offensive line, even though most of his NFL work has come at right guard and right tackle.

A big return

It wasn’t a move that generated big headlines but could pay off in a big way, the Dolphins bringing back veteran defensive tackle John Jenkins, who played in Miami in 2019 before spending last season with the Chicago Bears.
