Beating BACK PAIN

Whether it’s stiffness, stinging or spasms, back pain is common among Australians.

World Surfing League sports practitioner and chiropractor Jason Gilbert says that while women and men suffer many of the same back problems, women can also experience issues due to pregnancy, the wearing of high heels and lugging around weighty bags. “Many of the things we do in day-to-day life misalign the spine and compromise the delicate relationship a spine has with the spinal cord,” he says.

Gilbert offers these tips for preventing back pain.

MOVING MATTERS

If you sit at a desk for hours at a time and tend to skip regular exercise, Gilbert says simply walking and moving throughout the day will help your spine health.
