Time For Environmentally Sound Policies

It is no secret that the Northeast, like the rest of the country, has suffered from climate change over the years. Based on the trends observed in the Northeast from 1971 till date, several scientists predict a rise in the regional annual mean temperature and decrease in annual rainfall in the coming years. This coupled with the warning issued by the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) to actively address the issue of global warming throughout the country comes as a warning bell that should not be ignored. In the Northeast, it should act as a wake-up call for the State governments to initiate strategies in order to develop the region as India’s negative carbon emission zone.
