Sarah Ewens can see the Celtic Women’s team developing as the season progresses

Just one goal in their last league outing would have put the Celtic Ghirls at the top of the table as their home game with Spartans two weekends ago was the only fixture to beat the inclement weather.
With Glasgow City’s meeting with Rangers and Hibernian’s match with Hamilton Accies falling victim to the late winter weather, the Hoops had the opportunity to leap-frog both pacesetters and move into top place – albeit having played a game more.
Alas, a 0-0 draw saw the Celts pick up just one point and the chance to top the table, however fleetingly, was gone.
Ewens said: “Going top would have been a boost and helped our confidence. I think its confidence that is maybe lacking a bit at the moment.
“I’m not sure why because we have a great squad but we’ll iron these things out as we progress and we will turn this around.”
The striker has still to get her teeth into the campaign as injury has seen her miss all but the opening game of the term, before returning from the bench on Sunday, and she admitted that her own season is not one she dreamed of at the start of the term.
She said: “It’s not been great because I’ve been injured and only played in the first game of the season against Rangers as I picked up a groin injury.
