Growing up in a multi-cultural city like Mumbai, one is able to recognise certain communities based on certain typical quirks and characteristics. What struck me the most about the Bene Israel Jewish community was how difficult it was to find a defining characteristic about them. When I moved to Ahmedabad and learnt about this microscopic community through author Esther David, I was extremely intrigued. The two of us then began documenting how they held on to their cultural identity.
