Jason Wadhwani’s signature style of—and love for—monochromes turns this Mumbai apartment into a stylish urban oasis

Natural foliage and abundant sunlight add a dash of wholesomeness to the living room, where Dori armchairs by Project 810 share space with Gulmohar Lane coffee tables and Hands’ Intaglio rug
Bold yet timeless. That’s the aesthetic that a successful, millennial couple in Mumbai (who happen to be parents to two canines) wished for. So, they turned to Jason Wadhwani and his eponymous firm for his signature style, where monochromes reigns supreme.
Jason transformed this 2,500 sq ft apartment into a functional and design-forward space that would be comfortable not just for the couple but also their pair of four-legged friends. The designer shares, “The homeowners and I were on the same page—a very contemporary, no-fuss home with a muted palette that would be monochromatic in parts. These elements are a significant part of my design vocabulary, so I knew it was going to be an exciting apartment to work on.”
The mood for the colour palette was set by the grey marble flooring. It led to a neutral and parred down melange of shades, with bold pops of black and white elements. Jason, whose work is easily recognisable, shares, “I worked on a palette centred around the flooring and continued the hues of grey throughout the home—from the main door to the entry passageway ceiling, a sideboard unit for the dining room, right up to the cement-finished wall in the main bedroom and a grey guest bathroom. I’ve been known to love my blacks, whites and greys. But I decided to take it up a notch here and make it more ‘in your face’.”
