On the 47th floor of a Mumbai high-rise, designers Chaitali Parikh-Mehta and Sejal Parikh create a refreshing, colour-soaked home

Nestled tall in a newly built high-rise, far above the calculated disorder and cacophony of central Mumbai, is this home that emanates quietude. It is a blend of marine and earth hues, which are lit up with sunlight and soothed with ocean breeze. Interior designer Chaitali Parekh-Mehta of Inscape Designers has created a soulful sanctuary. The lady of the house clarifies, ‘Everyone thinks they can match colours and design, but imagination is very different from actually executing it! So, after the initial brief to incorporate lots of blues and greens, earth shades, natural fabrics and textures, and avoidance of artificiality in materials, colours and lighting, I handed over the reins to Chaitali.’
Knocking down the restrictive walls of an unwanted bedroom, Chaitali merged it with the living area. The new space created room for two separate seating arrangements as well as a semi-enclosed study. Creating groupings of seating helped in developing a visual and circulation space, ingeniously trimming down the awkwardness of a large space. This was also done by punctuating it with sudden pops of brilliant colours, mainly of greens and blues, with spots of pinks. Ranging from upholstery to rugs and right up to the vinyl-backed wall covers, the colours appear as bright florals or amped as jewel tones of emerald and sapphire. The dining table, snuggled in a niche, parallel to the living room setting, joins the chorus of natural colours and mat
