‘We Redesigned A Boxy Old Bungalow'

Andrew and Maria Ford took a basic chalet bungalow and turned it into a bigger, more contemporary-looking property

Andrew and Maria had been looking for the right house to renovate or rebuild in Surrey for several years before they found this place. ‘We already lived in the area and had family, friends, and schools close by,’ says Andrew. They lived in the house for a year and a half before hiring Mohsin Cooper Architects (mohsincooper.com), who came recommended by a friend, to help them remodel it.

REPLANNING SPACE ‘The ground floor layout was pretty good,’ says Andrew. ‘We just needed to extend to the rear to make a larger living area.’ The upstairs space was limited with just two dormer bedrooms, so the couple planned to extend out over the garage, putting in new front and rear dormers to give them four bedrooms, two with en suites, as well as a family bathroom and a dressing room for the main bedroom.
