1 HOW TO ADD PATTERN TO YOUR WALLS

If you have high ceilings you might want to add pattern to the bottom half of your walls, leaving the top half white.

• Choose a daring, exciting design as you are only papering part of the wall.

• Work in thirds, so either paper one third up your wall or two. Using a pencil, spirit level and ruler, draw a horizontal plumb line from one side to the other.

• Paper from the floor (or the top of the skirting boards) to the plumb line.

• Attach a length of dado moulding, or just a simple strip of wood, painted in the same shade as the top part of your walls, to neatly edge your wallpaper.

2 WOW WITH WALLPAPER IN A KITCHEN

Forgo a classic tiled splashback or a bland painted wall in the kitchen, and instead embrace an eye-catching design and plump for wallpaper. Most papers are easy to clean with a damp cloth but if papering behind a sink, it’s a good idea to add a transparent splashback over the top to protect it.

STYLE TIP Use a slim piece of leftover worktop to create a floating shelf that can be hung across the middle of the wall, to break up the pattern of the paper slightly
