A look at plaster-effect walls

WHY GO FOR A PLASTER EFFECT

It’s a treatment that’s particularly effective in old houses, where walls are rarely perfectly entirely smooth and right angles can be hard to come by, but it will also help to soften the overall look of a new home. ‘We like using plaster effects in our schemes—they give life and movement to otherwise stark or too perfect surfaces,’ says Henriette von Stockhausen of VSP Interiors. ‘Plaster effects can look great in most rooms of the house, but I particularly like using a tadelakt in bathrooms – the smooth finish looks super smart. Sometimes, we’ve applied wax to a polished plaster wall – it’s a clever way to create a gentler effect. We’ve also used a wallpaper by Lewis & Wood in a recent project which is another way to give the subtle illusion of a plaster wall.’
