“I WANT TO BE SURROUNDED BY BEAUTIFUL THINGS” Says the high-priestess of textile design .

Mind

THE BEGINNING.

Education

I attended Nottingham High School for girls where I also completed my A-levels, studying textiles, art and design before going on to do a Diploma in Art Foundation there. After that, I went to Huddersfield University for a BSc in textile design.

Specialisation

Print design, as I wanted to show as much creativity as possible in my work.

First internship/ apprenticeship

During my time at Huddersfield, I completed a year at the Romo head office working primarily in the design studio.

A subject you wished you’d studied

If I hadn’t been focused on textile design I would’ve pursued jewellery design. I like the idea of creating something personal that people will cherish and gift.

Most ambitious school project

My A-level art project was very ambitious and experimental. I used lots of mediums, experimenting with texture, colour and form to create a unique textural installation.

Matter

THE DESIGN OUTPUT

Your first design

Was for my final degree project. I drew inspiration from the 1950s British design and fashion.

A piece you wish you’d designed

The Ghost 12 Sofa by Poala Navone for Gervasoni.

Best design

The Herbaria embossed wall covering from our new Herbaria wall coverings collection by Black Edition.

Worst design

Some of our earlier Romo designs are no longer design favourites.

Most challenging design

The Desire wall covering from our collaboration with contemporary British artist, Jessica Zoob. Translating an artwork into a wall covering was a challenge.
