A Colourful Narrative

Architect Dhaval Patel adds personality and vigour to a contemporary abode in Ahmedabad, through a measured celebration of colours and textures.

When Akash Patel was looking to get his home designed, he turned to someone he had faith in, someone who understood what he needed — architect Dhaval Patel, the principal at Ahmedabad-based DPA Design Studio. Having collaborated on his office and farmhouse projects in the past, the client and the architect were acquainted with each other’s taste and sensibilities. With each project that DPA Design Studio takes up, they endeavour to celebrate and integrate Indian heritage, art, craft and architecture with contemporary works by imbibing traditional knowledge with modern techniques — something that the client appreciated and related to.

For his existing three-storey bungalow, Akash expressed a desire to have modern, minimal and elegant interiors with a colourful atmosphere. The bungalow has a living room, dining and kitchen area, and a bedroom in the ground floor, the first floor comprises a master bedroom and bath, reading room and guest bedroom. While, the terrace area and terrace lounge are part of the layout on the second floor. “He wanted an individual lounge and reading area along with a lavish terrace for rejuvenation and entertaining guests. A design that would integrate art and other statement elements in separate zones was also a prerequisite. Budget wasn’t a constraint and I had a free hand in the design,” informs Dhaval.
